Attorney at Law
Tecla Druffel
I’m Tecla (pronounced “Tec-Law”) Druffel. My practice focuses on consumer bankruptcy, guardian ad litem work and representing business clients on general matters.
I grew up in the Southeast and ventured out West on a whim to work as a waitress during my summer breaks in college. Fast forward twenty years, I am now married to a fifth-generation Palouse farmer and firmly planted in the Palouse and LC Valley region. I have two young daughters and I’ve lost count of how many animals. In the summers I grow an ever-expanding garden; in the winters, I enjoy winter sports. In addition to my practice, my husband and I own and operate several small businesses, mostly related to agriculture.
Once upon a time, I thought all lawyers were supposed to look, speak, and run their cases a certain way. I’ve ditched that notion. If you must hire a lawyer, you might as well find one that you like.
One thing I am is a strong communicator. Over my career I have leveraged my God-given communication talent and life experiences to get great results for my clients. In college, I earned a degree in Public Relations which I draw on now to identify desirable outcomes and develop common-sense case strategies to get there. In law school, I learned not only how to think, read and write like a lawyer, but also how to deal with other lawyers. But as most of us know, the most important lessons aren’t taught in a classroom. Over the course of my life, I’ve learned to navigate high conflict situations and talk to difficult people. I’ve experienced personal losses and I’ve celebrated personal wins. I am a human first and a lawyer second and I have made it my goal that a person never feel embarrassed to have to come meet with me.
I work hard and I try to be nice to people. I am an attorney, an advocate and an adviser, but I am also a mother, a wife, a friend, a boss, a landlord, a neighbor, a daughter and a sister. I am committed to each of my roles and I learn something new every day that I bring back to my law practice. With my expertise in insolvency, I can usually develop a strategy to minimize the legal costs, guide the client towards a rational path, all the while managing the risks to the parties involved. With my broad life experience—other than being a lawyer—I find it easy to connect with my clients. Practicing law is an absolute privilege and I feel grateful every day.
